FAQ

  • Do you take horses/ponies in?

Yes! We take in horses of all ages, breeds, and disciplines. Whether it’s your backyard friend or that retired show horse, we believe they all have a story to tell and a lesson to teach!

We do require our horses to work with children, so a calm and kind disposition is required.

  • What if I don't want you to ride my horse?

Once a horse is donated, they become property of Black Horse Rescue Corp.

We are not a boarding facility or a retirement facility, therefore, all horses must be able to contribute to their basic care. While being ridable is not a requirement, they must find a job within our program.

  • Can I get community service hours?

If you are a high school student looking to earn community service hours, we are here to help! Please see the how to help tab above.

  • Do your horses receive veterinary care?

Yes! All horses are completely reviewed by our on call veterinarian prior to pick-up and upon arrival. We often have horses that come with extensive health issues and we want to ensure they are receiving all the care they need!

Further, we work closely with various equine professionals including farriers, dentists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors to provide our horses with top of the line care.

  • Can I just drop my horse off?

No! All horses may only be delivered when we have completed a valid horse donation agreement and while we would love take them all, we only have room for so many!

  • Can I take my horse back whenever I want?

Unfortunately, once a horse is donated, they become property of Black Horse Rescue Corp. You no longer have rights to the horse.

We do encourage prior owners to come visit whenever possible by appointment only. If for some reason we do need to re-home the horse, priority will always be given to the prior owner.
